Drinking Water - Snow Monk Camp

Drinking Water

-

It is very important to identify potable water while camping and on a trek. It is imperative that the water you drink while camping or trekking is clean and free of any contaminants as much as possible.

The below methods must be followed for clean drinking water:

  1. Use an outdoor water filter or purifier – We recommend investing in LifeStraw water bottles which are perfect for converting any kind of available water into potable safe water. It removes bacteria, protozoa, and it incorporates a carbon capsule that reduces chlorine, bad taste and odor. You may buy this bottle online (Lifestraw Go Personal Water Purifier Water Bottle, 650ml
  2. Boil the Water – Incase you are not carrying a water filter purifier, then please boil the water. This is exceptionally effective to kill pathogens. Let the water boil for at least one minute. There is no need for additional filtration if you have already boiled the water.
  3. Use Water Purification Tablets – Water purifying tablets are ideal. A single tablet will purify 5 gallons or 25 liters of water. A couple of packs of tablets will last for well over a week’s trip.

Avoid – drinking water directly from the river. While crossing villages, use the taps available normally throughout the villages.
